Tata Nexon Reclaims Crown as India’s Best-Selling SUV in FY26; Hyundai Creta Secures Second

NEW DELHI: The Tata Nexon has officially finished the 2026 financial year as India’s highest-selling SUV, reclaiming its crown with a dominant sales performance. Recording total wholesales of 2,16,054 units, the compact SUV saw a massive 32% year-on-year growth, re-establishing itself as the primary driver of Tata Motors’ passenger vehicle portfolio.

The Top Contenders
While the Nexon took the top spot, the competition remained fierce across the segment:

  • Hyundai Creta: Secured second place with 2,01,921 units. The Creta continues to be a powerhouse, maintaining its undisputed leadership within the midsize-SUV category.
  • Tata Punch: Last year’s market leader (FY25) moved to the third position this year, clocking 1,83,980 units.
  • Maruti Suzuki Brezza: Rounded out the top four with steady sales of 1,80,104 units.

Market Trends
The Nexon’s resurgence highlights a shifting dynamic in the Indian automotive market, where diverse powertrain options—including petrol, diesel, CNG, and electric—have helped it appeal to a broader audience compared to its rivals. Despite the internal competition from the smaller Punch, the Nexon’s recent updates and features have successfully driven it back to the number one position.
